Eagle Rock Brewery: Salvation Mountain Fundraising

The brewhouse's newest offering, Salvation Mountain, will help support the ethereal, desert-huge artwork.

DAY TRIP SERIES: Regional craft breweries have become well-known for staying locally focused, particularly in how they name and theme some of their best beers. The focus might be on a famous weather pattern, like the June Gloom brew from the Venice Beach Beer Company a few years back, or on how Southern Californians would interpret their home turf via a crowd-sourced beer, like the one Angel City Brewery partnered on with the Natural History Museum. Eagle Rock Brewery also keeps tabs on those places, ideas, and people we do love around the area, and its spring-launched Day Trip series is great evidence of the brewery's commitment to spreading the love about treasured SoCal sights. Mosaic Canyon, the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, and Mount Whitney have all been immortalized in beers created by the brewhouse in recent months, but there's another special place still to come. It's...

SALVATION MOUNTAIN, the monumental, paint-laden, Salton Sea-close landmark created by Leonard Knight over a period of several years. It's become a much-seen feature in movies and music videos, but plenty of Golden Staters have made the trek to Niland to see the hill-big, bright-of-hue wonder, a wonder that the Folk Art Society of America called a "...folk site worthy of preservation and protection." If you're a fan of Eagle Rock Brewery, and you'd like to help Salvation Mountain weather on, boldly, note at that Salvation Mountain, a prickly pear gose, will debut on Tuesday, Oct. 24. "A portion of the proceeds from every can benefit Salvation Mountain, Inc.," says the brewery (think $1.25 for every 4-pack of cans). To learn more about the Day Trip series, visit ERB.
