A man has been taken into custody after allegedly shooting at deputies and barricading himself inside a residence in East Los Angeles Saturday night.

Deputies responded just before 10 p.m. to the 6000 block of 6th street for a child abuse call, Deputy Crystal Hernandez said.

Arriving deputies were allegedly fired upon by a man. Deputies returned fire but the man fled the location on foot and it was unknown whether or not he was hit, Hernandez said.

Officials said that a search area was set and surrounding residences in that location were asked to evacuate as a precaution.

The man allegedly barricaded himself in a residence and it was unknown at the time whether anyone else was in the residence with the man, police said.
