El Monte Police Chase Domestic Violence Suspect

Police chased a domestic violence suspect for about an hour and half Monday night as he and his pals drove circles through El Monte neighborhoods.

It was a tense scene because police believed the suspect was armed with a handgun.  At one point during the pursuit the suspect spoke directly to pursuing officers via cell phone.

The chase ended when police strategically placed a spike strip on a surface street and the unwitting suspect drove his car over the device.

The chase started around 9:30 p.m. at Durfee Avenue and Exline Street in El Monte.  The suspect drove in circles using surface streets and nearby freeways for over an hour and a half.

The pursuit ended about a quarter mile from where it began at Gilman and Ferris Roads.

Three suspects in the vehicle gave up without incident.

No one was hurt as police shadowed the suspects through the streets of El Monte.
