A rare mistake led to a heartbreaking fall for the U.S. ice dance team of Evan Bates and Madison Chock. The couple's skates collided on the second night of ice dance, causing both to spill on the ice during a touching performance accompanied by a version of John Lennon's "Imagine." Chock, of Redondo Beach, and Bates ended up in fourth place -- missing out on a medal and ending an Olympic run that included their best performance of the season a night earlier in the short program. That performance, which included flashy and colorful outfits, wowed the crowd and placed the duo in seventh entering the second part of the competition. Chock, competing with Bates in the pair's second Olympics, pushed through an injury to complete the short dance.
The fall entering a combination spin marred an otherwise beautiful performance that still drew deserved applause from an appreciative crowd. Scroll down for photos from their performance.
