Fatality Investigation Closes Lanes on 10 Freeway in Pomona

CHP investigators said a trucker noticed the body in the No. 4 lane of the freeway

A man was killed early Tuesday when he was struck by several vehicles on the eastbound 10 Freeway in Pomona,  the California Highway Patrol said.

The pedestrian was fatally injured on the freeway near Fairplex Boulevard at about 4:30 a.m., CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos said. His name was withheld, pending  notification of relatives.

Officer Kerri Rivas said a big rig driver reported that he was unable to stop before striking the body in the No. 4 lane of the eastbound 10 Freeway.

"Approximately two more vehicles also ran over the body," Rivas said.

It was unclear why the man was on the freeway, Villalobos said. Several  vehicles stopped at the scene, and officers interviewed the motorists, he said.

A SigAlert was issued for the No. 3 and 4 lanes for four or five hours while an  investigation was conducted. That SigAlert was expected to remain in effect until about 8 a.m.
