Fire Burning in Sycamore Canyon in Riverside

A brush fire that has burned about 250 acres in the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Park sent plumes of smoke over neighborhoods in Riverside and Moreno Valley Saturday.

The third-alarm fire was reported at about 2:30 p.m. near Via Zapata and Verdugo, in the northwest part of the park, according to the Riverside City Fire Department.

Authorities warned the public to stay away from the park as firefighters tried to get a handle on the flames. Fire officials said the blaze was burning near the same area where a fire scorched over 200 acres in July.

No injuries or evacuation orders were reported.
