Fire Burns Near 101 Freeway

A brush fire broke out near the 101 Freeway, south of Camarillo Springs Road, Tuesday afternoon, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

The so-called Grade Fire had scorched 50 acres by around 4 p.m., and fire crews had begun water drops to try to hold the blaze to 70 acres.

Manmade borders helped stop most of the fire's forward progress by around 4:40 p.m., said Ventura County Fire Department spokesman Steve Swindel. Approximately 100 personnel were responding, he said.

The fire was 30 percent contained as of 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The fire was headed southward, toward the Newbury Park community, Swindel said. The department issued an air advisory for the community.

While there are farm houses in the area, no structures were being threatened, Swindel said. There were no injuries reported, he said.
