Six people were hurt, four of them critically, when the driver sped through a stop sign and crashed into the Uber, which then hit a building in Hollywood, according to authorities.

"I heard a smash and did not expect what I had seen," said Dovi Levin, one of the good Samaritans who chased the driver after he fled.

The collision between the Mercedes SUV and Prius driven by the Uber driver took place about 6 a.m. at 7432 Melrose Ave., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

L.A.'s Building and Safety department responded to evaluate the structure which was hit by the Prius after the impact of the crash, Stewart said. There's no word yet on the outcome of their inspection.

    The LAPD's investigation was continuing.
