Parents Arrested After 5-Year-Old Girl Found Dead

Neighbors say a total of four children lived in the Fontana home with the suspects

A 5-year-old girl was found dead inside a Fontana home this week and her parents have been arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse, authorities said.

Jesse Giron, 34, and Irene Carreles, 25, were taken into custody after calling 911 Thursday morning to report that the little girl had stopped breathing. Investigators said they found evidence that the girl had been neglected and abused.

Giron and Carreles both have criminal histories, including grand theft and driving under the influence, police said. Custody of three other children who lived with the couple was given to the San Bernardino County Children and Family Services.

Investigators would not release many details about the case Friday, but neighbors said detectives collected a lot of evidence from the apartment in the 16000 block of Dorsey Avenue.

Neighbor Nayelly Beltran said investigators tore holes in the wall and ripped down doorways.

“She was malnourished, very malnourished (with) unexplainable bruises on her body,” neighbor Beltran said of the young girl.

Other neighbors said the children came out so rarely, they didn’t know multiple kids lived at the home.

Neighbor Ashley Weaver said she saw the 5-year-old walking outside recently without shoes and wearing “dirty clothes.”

A cause of death is under investigation.
