Three Hurt in Violent Highland Park Altercation

Three people were injured Saturday in a family altercation that turned violent in a Highland Park neighborhood, authorities said.

It was reported at 3:18 p.m. in the 600 block of North Avenue 65, according to LAPD Officer Tony Im.

According to police at the scene, a man attacked his brother and mother with a knife inside an apartment. The brother who was attacked then went to retrieve a gun and shot his brother, who was armed with the knife.

The attacker was hit in the leg and suffered critical injuries.

Four children were inside the home at the time of the incident, but were not hurt.

The suspect was detained by police.
