Four Victims Identified in Deadly Suspected DUI Crash in Santa Ana

The four people who were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Santa Ana allegedly caused by a drunken driver were identified Monday by Santa Ana police.

The victims were identified as 31-year-old Jose Alberto Avila-Rosas of Santa Ana, 23-year-old Ziomara Zaragoza of Garden Grove, 23-year-old Antonio Alonso Santibanez of Orange and 34-year-old Prisma Yuliana Montoya of Santa Ana.

The driver was later identified as 28-year-old Vincent Michael Calvo of Buena Park, who was arrested. His bail was set at $4 million, according to a Santa Ana Police Department watch commander who said Calvo was booked on suspicion of four counts of murder and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causing great bodily injury or death.

"He (Calvo) was transported (to an area hospital) as a trauma patient because of the violence of the collision,'' Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. "He has been treated and has been OK'd to be released to us, and he will be transported to jail."

Bertagna told reporters Calvo was apparently "extremely intoxicated."

Authorities were notified of the crash at Fourth Street and Tustin Avenue at 2:30 a.m. A black Jeep going westbound collided with a white Chevrolet pickup truck going southbound on Tustin Avenue, Bertagna said.

"Both vehicles flipped over multiple times," he said. "The driver of the Jeep got out his vehicle, at the same time an off-duty firefighter and nurse were at the scene."

The firefighter was able to put out the fire and the nurse, his wife, rendered aid to Calvo, who was the lone occupant inside his Jeep. He was taken to an area hospital and later released to police, Bertagna said.

The four people inside the pickup were pronounced dead at the scene.
