Free Block Party at the Petersen, Vroom Vroom

The free event will spotlight a host of super-cool cars, all in celebration of the museum's big 25th.

What to Know

  • Saturday, June 15
  • 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Free admission

If you've owned a car, how long did you have it?

Five years, or a decade, or maybe a little longer than that?

That seems to be the case with plenty of auto owners, but it is harder to find the person who still has a car they purchased a quarter century ago.

But the Petersen Automotive Museum, on the Miracle Mile, has kept close to its car-cool mission for 25 years now. In fact, the museum has tended to that mission as carefully as a person loves upon a special set of wheels, with periodic make-overs, needed updates, and awesome additions.

It's something to celebrate, a 25th anniversary, and the red-neon swirl of an out-sized and outlandish structure is throwing a block party with vroom to spare.

It all revs the gas pedal on the evening of Saturday, June 15, and as the "block" in "block party" suggests, attending is free.

What can car buffs, neighbors, mavens of the Miracle Mile, and Petersen-obsessed people expect to zoom by, on foot, once there?

So much eye-popping, vehicle-vivacious stuff, including an "(e)xclusive Petersen vehicle display," "(h)istorical video projection," activities for the tots, and, way-cool, a showcase featuring the Ford GT.

Oh yes, and KCRW DJs'll be in the house, acting as the turn-up-the-knob car radios to this car-tastic extravaganza.

The block party will be block-party-ing from 6 to 9 o'clock. Where to RSVP, to let the museum know you'll be there?

You can find it on this page.

It's true that few car owners keep a vehicle for 25 years. But the Petersen's first quarter century is wrapping up in spectacular fashion, showing that keeping a car museum for 25 years, and keeping it well, is quite the cool thing to do.

Wish it a happy anniversary, and stop by on Father's Day Eve for a host of wowza automobiles, and automobile-adjacent goings-on.
