Giving directions to The Getty Center and not saying the words "off the 405"? Well, science hasn't yet studied this topic yet, but you can bet it is nearly impossible.
For as much as we Southern Californians like using a "the" ahead of a freeway number, we also often describe locations as "off" a major thoroughfare.
Which makes the easy-to-recall handle of The Getty Center's long-running, pay-nothing summer concert series a phrase you probably already have used on more than one occasion.
Off the 405, which jams over five spring-to-summer Saturday nights, is tuning the guitars and testing the mics for the 2017 kick-off. Date? Saturday, May 20 from 6 to 9 o'clock.
Nite Jewel is the first out on The Getty stage, followed by White Fence on June 10, La Luz on June 24, Steve Gunn on July 29, and Savoy Motel on Aug. 26. The "eclectic mix" includes "arty dance music and retro reinterpretations," as well as a spectrum of other styles.
There shall be libations like agua fresca cocktails and beer close at hand — seek out the cash bar — as well as noshes to keep you rocking, swaying, humming along through the evening.
As for that glorious Getty garden? It'll stay open, as will the galleries. As for catching the sunset? That should happen later in the evening, and you'll be at one of the highest points around to enjoy it.
