An hour or two spent at the Original Farmers Market always feels pretty darn celebratory, and especially auspicious, and a person can leave in higher spirits than when they arrived.
Put it down to the fact that it is always free to enter the colorful and bustling landmark, though if you do want to spend a little money, you certainly can, on goodies like toffee and pizza.
So when it is that time of year, a time to truly mark a new beginning that brims with hope and joy and let's-look-up-a-tude, where better to spend it then a place that holds true to those tenets, all year long?
Which is all to say this: Lions shall dance, Kung Fu pros shall dazzle, magician Johnny Wu will wow, and singer Katherine Ho (recently heard on the soundtrack for "Crazy Rich Asians") will deliver the scintillating sounds when the Original Farmers Market welcomes the Year of the Pig on Sunday, Feb. 17.
It's the public market's Lunar New Year celebration, and, as with so many things found at the Third & Fairfax favorite, entry is free.
One sweet centerpiece? The unveiling of a 400-pound steel statue that is, yes, quite swinely in nature.
