Fremont HS Teacher's Aide Charged With Lewd Acts

The 40-year-old teacher's aide and coach was arrested on campus Monday

A 40-year-old teacher's aide accused of sexual contact with a 15-year-old student was charged Wednesday with three counts of lewd acts and one count of contacting a minor for a sexual offense.

The charges againt Alain Salas, a teacher's aide and coach at John C. Fremont Senior High School, stem from an FBI investigation that began in December. A district spokesperson told NBC4 that officials found out about the case on Monday when Salas, who coached volleyball and softball at the school, was arrested.

The allegations involve online communication that was sexual in nature, according to the FBI. The alleged crimes occurred between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30, according to the LA County District Attorney.

His arrest comes after two former Miramonte Elementary School teachers were arrested on suspicion of lewd acts involving children.

Third-grade teacher Mark Berndt is charged with 23 felony counts, allegations that stemmed from photographs of blindfolded children in a Miramonte classroom. Some of the children were pictured with spoons of semen held to their mouths, authorities said.

A second Miramonte teacher, Martin Bernard Springer, pleaded not guilty to committing three lewd acts on a girl.
