One victim walked to the emergency room for help

A multi-car wreck near a hospital in Fullerton killed a wrong-way driver Thursday evening and injured several others, authorities said.

Six vehicles, including an overturned SUV, were mangled together on Harbor Boulevard near Bastanchury Road. In all, eight cars appeared to be involved in the wreck, which happened near St. Jude Medical Center.

At least one crash victim walked to the emergency room for help.

"It was really fortunate that there were so many medical responders here right away," said Sgt. Jeff Stuart, with the Fullerton Police Department. "That may be why so many people survived."

Witnesses said the driver of the overturned SUV was speeding down the wrong side of Harbor Boulevard then barreled into several cars waiting at a red light.

"It looked like it was intentional," witness Yvette Garcia said. "The driver was not swerving, he didn't honk. He basically just coming on to oncoming traffic, on to us

The SUV driver died on impact, police said. Five others were injured.
