Burglars Target Garden Grove Homes

Police say the burglars appear to be targeting Garden Grove's Vietnamese community

Police in Garden Grove are telling the public to be wary after three men posing as delivery men robbed two homes in the area this week. Adrian Arambulo reports for the NBC4 News at Noon on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014. (Published Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014)

Police are urging Garden Grove communities to be vigilant in protecting their homes after recent burglaries showed similarities to crimes committed earlier this year.

In the most recent break-ins, three men pretended to deliver flowers or balloons, tied up victims inside their homes, robbed them and left, according to the Garden Grove Police Department.

They wiped down surfaces they had touched before leaving the homes.

Security footage linked the men to two home robberies on Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning in Garden Grove. They appear to be targeting the city's Vietnamese community, officials said.

"We want to make sure the public is conscientious about letting people into their homes," said Garden Grove Police Lt. Jeff Nightingale.

Police are investigating a possible linkage between the crimes and two similar ones that occurred in Garden Grove in May.

In both of those robberies, police found victims zip-tied in their homes. One victim was found with a gunshot wound to the neck holding a baby girl, police said.

Officials said the crimes have not been linked but all have similar MOs and the victims are all of Asian descent.

The burglars are described as black men wearing black clothing and jackets. One of them is between 20 to 30 years old, 6 feet tall and heavy set, weighing between 240 and 270 pounds, police said. He was seen wearing gold-framed aviator sunglasses and high-top black basketball shoes with white soles.
