Golf Robbery Leads to Marijuana Bust

A police sting operation lead to a man being arrested with five pounds of marijuana

A 39-year-old man was being held in lieu of $70,000 bail after he was arrested at his Lawndale home with about five pounds of marijuana, a sheriff's deputy said Saturday.

Joe Albert Wolfe, 39, was arrested during a grand theft operation Friday at the Alondra Park Golf Course, 16400 S. Prairie Ave., where deputies working in an undercover operation reportedly saw Wolfe steal a golf bag and clubs from one of their undercover vehicles, said Deputy Paul Schrader of the sheriff's Parks Bureau.

Deputies followed Wolfe to his home, which is adjacent to the golf course and arrested him about 2:30 p.m. Friday for theft, and recovered the stolen golf bag and clubs, said sheriff's Sgt. Don Rubio.

Schrader said while inside Wolfe's home, deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from his bedroom. Deputies found approximately five pounds of marijuana stashed inside five clear plastic bags, a 9 mm handgun with the serial numbers removed, digital scales and more than $2,000 in cash in the room.

Wolfe was arrested on suspicion of grand theft, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of a firearm with the serial number removed and possession of stolen property. He was booked at the sheriff's station and was being held in lieu of $70,000 bail.
