Report: Grant Hill to Join the Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers continued their flurry of acquisitions this offseason Tuesday, reportedly adding Grant Hill to the roster.

A 17-year veteran, Hill averaged 10.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists with the Phoenix Suns last season.

He will serve as Caron Butler’s backup at the small forward position, according to the Los Angeles Times, which reported the acquisition Tuesday.

The Clippers now have the option of using their $1.9 million bi-annual exception or a sign-and-trade deal to acquire 6-foot-8-inch Hill.

The Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks had also been in contention for Hill’s services, but he was reportedly swayed to join the Clippers by coach Vinny Del Negro, Chauncey Billups and Chris Paul.

Hill, who will turn 40 in October and is league’s second-oldest player, adds another veteran presence to a bench that will feature new additions Lamar Odom and Jamal Crawford.

During the 2011-12 regular season, the team's bench ranked near the bottom of the league in all major offensive categories and only outscored opponents 19 times.
