High School Football Coach Nicolas Ovendale Arrested in Sex Scandal, Says Sheriff

Suspect accused of having sex with 15-year-old student

An assistant coach for the Hart High School freshman football team was arrested on suspicion of having sex with a minor, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department announced Friday.

Nicolas Ovendale, 20, was arrested Thursday near his Santa Clarita home. He was booked on one count of lewd acts with a child and one count of unlawful sexual intercourse, according to the department.

Deputies allege that during October, the Valencia man had sex with a 15-year-old Hart High School student in his parked vehicle in the Stevenson Ranch area.

"Detectives from the Special Victims Bureau made contact with the victim. We determined that, some in appropriate conduct, essentially sexual intercourse, had taken place between her and this football coach. The conduct did not take place at the school," says Sgt. Brian Hudson.

School officials found out about the alleged incident and reported it to the sheriff's department during the first week of November.

Ovendale's bail was set at $50,000.
