Witnesses Say Driver Ran Red Light Before Buena Park Hit-and-Run

The crash left a motorcyclist struck by the pickup's rear wheel in critical condition

Witnesses told police that a pickup driver who struck a motorcyclist ran a red light before the hit-and-run crash in Buena Park.

The crash occurred at about 12:30 a.m. near Orangethorpe and Knott avenues. The motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Knott Avenue when the driver of a black or dark grey Chevrolet Silverado extended cab pickup with tinted windows went through a red light, according to witnesses.

The motorcyclist attempted to brake, but the bike flipped and launched the man, according to witnesses. A rear before a rear tire of the pickup ran over the man, witnesses told police.

"Apparently, the motorcyclist saw that the truck wasn't going to stop and hit the brakes," said Sgt. Judith Williams, of the Buena Park Police Department. "The motorcycle went end over end."

The motorcyclist was hospitalized in critical condition early Tuesday morning.
