Hit-and-Run Victim Dragged for Blocks in Wheel Well of Car, Then Crawls to House for Help

The victim eventually crawled to a nearby house for help

A man standing outside his car was struck by another car and dragged several blocks until he fell free and dragged himself to a house for help, police said Monday.

The hit-and-run crash happened about 11:30 p.m. Sunday at Washington Boulevard and Second Avenue, Officer Mike Tirella of the Los Angeles Police Department's West Traffic Division said. Two women were inside the car and the man was standing outside the car with the door open looking for something in the front seat when he was struck, Tirella said.

Security camera video shows the driver striking a parked car, generating a shower of sparks. Part of a vehicle appears to slide on the road before stopping against a curb.

The man was trapped on the front wheel well of the hit-and-run vehicle for about a quarter-mile. He fell off when the driver slowed to make a u-turn.

"He was dragged for blocks until the car turned onto a side street that was a dead end and slowed down and the victim fell off," the officer said.

The victim crawled to a nearby house to ask for help. The man suffered scrapes, cuts and injuries to his face from being dragged on the road. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The hit-and-run driver's car was described as a gray sedan with passenger-side damage.
