Hammer-Wielding Thieves Strike Four Hollywood Locations in 30 Minutes

The crimes ended with an attempted carjacking near Waring Avenue and Cahuenga Boulevard

Robbers stole cell phones and other items from at least four locations in about 30 minutes late Monday before an attempted carjacking in Hollywood.

The robberies began at about 11 p.m. and occurred within a three-mile radius. The robbers, armed with a hammer or some other type of "blunt instrument," also attempted to carjack a vehicle near Waring Avenue and Cahuenga Boulevard.

The victims were either walking near or entering their vehicles, police said.

Cash, cell phones, wallets and a saxophone were among the items reported stolen. The robberies occurred near Yucca Street and Las Palmas Avenue, Selma Avenue and Schrader Boulevard and Lexington Avenue and June Street.

The Schrader Boulevard robbery occurred near a YMCA.

The intended victim in the carjacking attempt at Waring Avenue and Cahuenga Boulevard drove to the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood station. The vehicle's window appeared to have been shattered when it was struck with a hammer, police said.

As many as four people were involved in the robberies, according to LAPD investigators.
