House of Blues Sunset Strip to Close its Doors

The roadhouse-style venue, one of the most recognizable buildings on the Strip, is said to be set for demolishment

House of Blues on the Sunset Strip will close its doors for good after holding its final performance Monday night.

The Steel Panthers & Friends are slated for the venue's sold-out final performance.

The roadhouse-style venue, one of the most recognizable buildings on Sunset Strip thanks to its front porch, roof-topped tower and fiery heart symbol, is said to be set for demolishment.

"There’s a lot of emotion today," said David Fortin, the venue's senior vice-president of marketing.

AECOM and Combine Properties Inc. are behind the planned complex set for the House of Blues corner, which will feature a hotel, condos, rentals, and an entertainment venue, according to a 2014 Bloomberg report.

Construction is likely to begin later this year, according to the report.

"We know it's really miserable for a lot of people on the Westside right now, especially people who live in the Hollywood Hills, but we're doing the best we can to get the construction done timely and as quickly as possible," West Hollywood City Councilman John Duran said.

Duran says the city is trying to save venues like the Roxy and Whisky a Go Go.

The 1,500-capacity House of Blues has featured artists like Aerosmith, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Justin Timberlake and Jay Z, since it first opened more than 20 years ago in April 1994.

Officials with the House of Blues say another location may open in Hollywood or downtown LA.

The House of Blues expanded to 12 locations since it first opened in Boston, so Southern Californians will still be able to visit the House of Blues locations in Anaheim or San Diego.
