Glamping, or glamourous camping, sounds like an activity that’s reserved exclusively for a pampered class of social media influencers. But there are a few easy steps you can take to add a touch of class to your camping experience without busting your budget.
Take the Indoors Outdoors
There’s no need to spend your entire trip stuck sitting in awkward collapsible chairs or squatting on a tree stump. A simple throw rug and some comfy pillows can make the ground much more hospitable. You probably don’t have space for your couch in the car, but you can make a big difference in your comfort level by identifying a few typically indoor items to bring along.
Ditch the Plastic
Plates, cups, tarps, cutlery... it seems like every camping item is made out of plastic. Most of these products can be substituted for nicer materials with little hassle. It may sound like a subtle change, but eating a campfire meal off a porcelain plate, with a metal fork and drinking from a real wineglass can make a huge difference in making you feel like you’re not roughing it.
Lighting Makes a Huge Difference
Rather than relying on ugly camping lanterns and harsh flashlights, hang up some string lights to provide a soft, inviting vibe to the campground. For tableside lighting, put a flameless candle inside a mason jar.
Remember the Purpose of Your Trip
Most people head to out into the woods to relax and escape. Unless you’re trekking the Pacific Crest Trail or exploring the undiscovered hinterland, you probably don’t need to rely exclusively on rugged outdoor equipment and clever multipurpose camping tools. Put away the multi-tool and bring a few extra items to prioritize comfort and ease. It makes a world of difference.
