Hundreds Attend Funeral for Slain 6-Year-Old Girl

A funeral was held on Saturday for a 6-year-old girl killed in a shooting in Moreno Valley

Hundreds attended the funeral for Tiana Ricks, 6, who was fatally shot in front of a relative's home last week. Detectives were still searching for her killer. Adrian Arambulo reports for NBC4 News at 6 p.m. on Sept. 14, 2013. (Published Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013)

Hundreds of people mourned on Saturday the loss of a 6-year-old girl, shot in a garage in possible gang violence and whose death rallied hip-hop artists Snoop Lion and The Game to help pay for the services.

Tiana Ricks was killed Sunday at a Moreno Valley home after celebrating a cousin going away to college. Tiana was with her father when someone fired at them. Her father survived.

"She's the most sweetest child," family friend Netta Parish said outside the funeral, held in Long Beach where Tiana lived with her mother. "Smart, bright ... suffered no fool."

Gilda Cook, a relative, traveled from Las Vegas to attend the funeral.

"I had to come down here and pay my respects," she said.

Word of Tiana's death spread all over the country.

Southern California rappers, Jayceon Terrell Taylor, known as The Game, and Calvin Broadus Jr., also known as Snoop Lion, donated thousands of dollars to her family for funeral and medical costs.

Police, meanwhile, continued to search for the gunmen.

Anyone with information was urged to call the Riverside County Sheriff's homicide unit at 951-955-2777 or the Moreno Valley station at 951-486-6700.
