A six-year-old boy was killed and his mother and brother hurt in a car crash in Huntington Beach Thursday night.

The two-car crash was reported just after 7 p.m. near Yorktown Avenue and Bushard Street when the car carrying the 37-year-old local woman and her two children was struck by a silver Ford Escape, Huntington Beach Police Department said.

Her white Mazda 3 spun out and hit a pole. The six-year-old sustained major injuries, and was transported to UCI Medical Center in critical condition, but later died. He has been identified as Austin Medina by the coroner's office.

The mother and her 11-year-old son suffered minor injuries, and were transported to UCI Medical Center.

The driver of the Ford, a 68-year-old Santa Ana woman, was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, with minor injuries. She was interviewed by investigating officers and released.

Both vehicles had significant damage. Occupants in both of the vehicles were injured. Huntington Beach Fire Department paramedics responded to treat the injured occupants.

HBPD Major Incident Reconstruction Team is conducting an investigation. No arrests have been made at this time. Investigators would like to speak to any witnesses.
