Man Suspected in Killing of Long Beach Man in Illegal Gambling Den Found in Arizona

The man is suspected of fatally shooting another man inside an illegal gambling establishment.

A man suspected of fatally shooting another man inside an illegal gambling establishment in Long Beach last month was found in Arizona and returned to the Southland, where he's being held in lieu of $3 million bail, police said.

The crime occurred about 1 a.m. Aug. 22 in the 1500 block of West Pacific Coast Highway. Johnny Akins, 49, of Long Beach was found wounded on a sidewalk, and died at a hospital the following day.

"The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was inside of an illegal gambling establishment ... when he was shot," according to a Long Beach police statement.

Long Beach Police Department homicide detectives said they identified 31-year-old Richard Quintana of Long Beach as the suspect and took him into custody in Glendale, Arizona, with the assistance of local police. Quintana was returned to Long Beach on Thursday and was booked on suspicion of murder.
