Improving your life?

A bookstore will have the tip-filled tomes you seek. Good friends have advice to share. And everything from podcasts to magazines to television shows can be counted on to advise a seeker on this ever-important topic.

Improv-ing your life?

You'll likely want to head directly to a celebrated spot that's become famous for the form, a bwa-ha-ha bastion of funny stuff that's seemingly created on the fly, without apparent effort, by talented people who can think on their fleet.

Er, feet, we do mean.

The Groundlings has been a go-to for such gleeful improvisational doings for well over four decades, and the movie stars who honed their satirical style on the Melrose-based stage, early on, are now a legion of laugh-rioters.

Could you be among these steller comedy-makers one day? Best find your inner brave person and make for the The Groundlings School on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 o'clock.

That's when the 4th annual Open House shall unfold, with a bevy of $10 classes to try and a number of current Groundlings, as well as alumni, in the house.

The morning will be devoted to the classes — "Finding and Deepening Characters" is on the roster — while a midday recess will give everyone a chance to mingle and eat at the on-hand food trucks.

Free rolled ice cream will also be served, should you need a treat. Free beer is also available, if you're 21 or over.

As for the afternoon?

Do stay for a trio of Groundlings shows, if you want to see thrilling performers working at their peaks in the field o' speedy sketch-making. Betcha you'll pick up some improv inspiration, too, or at least get a sense of what's happening in comedy today.

The price is free.

Keep in mind, with the $10 classes, that you can take up to three. Again, those are spooling out in the morning, so arrive early.

Question, though: Will you soon be starring in a har-har blockbuster on the big screen?

Or will improv be a real route to unlocking other creative avenues in your mind and heart?

Either way, taking a chance, being bold, and meeting other witty people, such as yourself, is pretty win-win.

Or make that win-win-win, what with the free rolled ice cream.

Why not take the chance? It's not a high barrier to entry, and The Groundlings will be glad to see you.

Do it.
