Investigators Ask for Public's Help in $1 Million Boat Heist

The three boats were stolen in the middle of the night from an Upland dealership.

Investigators are looking for three speedboats and trailers worth a combined $1 million taken from a dealership in Upland during a late-night heist.

The boats, each owned by a different person, were stolen from GT Marine products in Upland after midnight August 21, according to Sgt. Rob Young of the San Bernardino Police Department.

The vessels were at the dealership for service or maintenance work.

Young said the theft of such boats can be particularly lucrative to thieves who sell the parts individually. On the retail market, motors on the type of boats stolen can run up to $100,000. Thieves can still make a profit selling them for much less.

“We’ve recovered several that were just hulls,” Young said. “It happens more than you’d think.”

The first boat is described as a 1998 40-foot, Nevada-registered Hallett. It is white with blue sides and red pin stripes.

The second boat is described as a 1999 38-foot, California-registered Fountain. It is white with a stars-and-stripes color scheme and “277” emblazoned on the sides and top.

The thefts are being investigated by the multi-agency San Bernardino County Auto Theft Task Force.
