    The Flower Fields
The splendor-filled fields in Carlsbad bid goodbye on Mother's Day 2019.

THINGS THAT BLOOM ALL YEAR? Our hearts, when we see an old friend. Our ideas, when we give ourselves room to daydream. Our hope, if we keep our vision true and our dreams on the path. Things that don't bloom all year? Well, ranunculus flowers, for one. But just because these gorgeously large, many-petal'd wonders don't fill up the whole calendar with flowery beauty doesn't mean we can't fully enjoy their gifts. On the contrary, we adore ranunculus more due to its brevity, because we're reminded to savor the flowers' splendor in the moment. And that moment is winding down in Carlsbad, at the famous Flower Fields, which always open on March 1 and always close on Mother's Day. And Mother's Day 2019 is on the way, on May 12, so best get to this...

AGRA-WONDERLAND... pronto, if you want to admire the final blooms in the expansive fields, which spread out over 50-plus acres. The Tecolate Giant Ranunculus is definitely bidding us farewell, but there are plenty of pleasant pursuits around the fields, including wagon rides, The Artist Gardens, and more. And on Sunday, May 12, look for the Mother's Day Celebration, the final party of the 2019 season. Ballet folklorico, courtesy of Rancho Buena Vista High School, will be part of the festive day out. As for admission and more info? You can find it at The Flower Fields site. But if you'd like to wait for the peak of ranunculus wonder, hang tight: It will all open its proverbial petals again, next March, as surely as a ranunculus flower is colorful.
