“It's Our Home, Hof's:” Long Time Staple Closes

Hof's Hut has sat on the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Second Street in the Long Beach Marina for more than 50 years.

The restaurant was filled with patrons, eager to share their memories, just hours before it would be closing its doors.

"Well, Jerry lived in the (Belmont) Shore, and we started dating and he brought me down here all the time," said Joyce Dorsey, who started visiting Hof's Hut more than 40 years ago.

"In those days it was the Hof's burgers and the onion rings," said her husband, Jerry Dorsey.

The food kept the Dorsey's coming back for decades.

The couple has raised their children and grandchildren, sharing favorite memories at the popular family-own restaurant, which has five other locations in Southern California.

"We are going to miss it, we really are," said Hatti Goodrich. "It's going to be a big void in our life."

Long-time customers call the Long Beach restaurant their "Home Hof's."

Most of the servers and employees will be transferred to other stores.

Lupita Becerra, a server, has worked at the restaurant for 22 years. She hopes to see her regulars at her new location in Los Altos.

"It's like a big family," Becerra said.

"We've been coming, some of us for 20 years, some of us for 30 years," said Hona Wolcott, who, along with several of her girlfriends, is known as Becerra's "Thursday Morning Crew."

The restaurant, located at 6257 E. 2nd St. in Long Beach, is expected to close permanently at 11 p.m. Thursday.
