What to Know
Saturday, Feb. 16
2 to 6 p.m.
Santa Monica Place
Greeting the coming months with a mind open to good fortune, and an outlook attuned to prosperous happenstance, and a hope that all will find happiness and health?
These are auspicious and vibe-raising ways to say hello to the Lunar New Year, of course.
Of course, you don't need to attend a community celebration, if you'd prefer to open the door to the Year of the Pig in a private fashion, but Southern California is abloom with bashes over the coming days, including a free to-do in Santa Monica.
It's happening at Santa Monica Place, to be specific, on the afternoon of Saturday, Feb. 16.
The four-hour gathering — everything swirls to a marvelous start at 2 o'clock, with an ending just after sundown, at 6 p.m. — will include "traditional cultural performances" as well as "arts & crafts," and if you just called out "dough artist!," well, you're totally correct.
Dough arts are way, way cool.
As are the other elements you'll see and experience at Santa Monica Place, including DJ tunes, lion dances, and K-Pop dance from First Bite.
What a joy-growing, forward-looking way to give the pigly year a big, big start. But it won't cost you big, big bucks to join: It's all free.
That is quite the auspicious word, so consider loving up the Lunar New Year's start in Santa Monica, at this music-filled, dance-packed, pay-nothing festivity.
Level 1 at Center Plaza is the place to go, fortune-raising revelers.
