Jewelry Thief Targets San Pedro Neighborhood for Months

Authorities sought the public's help Tuesday in identifying a jewel thief wanted in a series of residential burglaries that occurred since October in San Pedro.

The first burglary occurred in the daytime on Oct. 27 when a suspect pulled a screen off a window of a residence in the 600 block of Oliver Street.

The suspect entered the home, ransacked it, and stole jewelry, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Similar burglaries occurred on Oct. 30 and Nov. 22, during the day, at two residences in the 600 block of O'Farrell Street.

A second burglary occurred on Nov. 22, also during the day, in the 500 block of Bonita Street.

Three days later on Nov. 25, a suspect crawled through an unsecured doggy-door to enter a residence in the 600 block of Santa Cruz Street. He ransacked the residence and stole a laptop computer, a man's watch, and several wallets, police said.

Two additional jewelry-related burglaries occurred on Dec. 1 and Dec. 5, in the 300 block of Oliver Street.

"All of the burglaries occurred within a short span of time, in close proximity to each other, and the suspect's method of operation was similar," police said in a statement.

"Video surveillance of the suspect has been obtained and is being released to alert the public of the ongoing burglaries that are occurring in the San Pedro area."

The suspect is described as black, between 18 and 25 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighs about 140 pounds.

Anyone with information on the burglaries or the suspect was asked to contact LAPD Harbor Burglary Detective Guevara at (310)726-7855, or Officer Baran at (310) 726-7856.
