Who Can You Call? Anyone, Since These LA Metro Lines Now Provide Full Cell Service

Four major cellular carriers in the city are providing cellphone service to more Metro subway stops this summer.

What to Know

  • Only AT&T and Verizon are currently providing complete cellphone coverage throughout both subway lines.
  • Sprint will extend its cellular services between North Hollywood and Hollywood/Western this summer.
  • Cellphone service is available to customers on all four major carriers throughout the entirety of the Metro Purple Line.

The Los Angeles Metro Red and Purple Lines are now equipped to provide riders with complete cellular service during the underground commutes, but some customers may have to be patient as carriers roll out coverage to more stops.

Four major cellular carriers in the city are providing cellphone service to more Metro subway stops this summer, with only AT&T and Verizon providing complete coverage throughout both lines at this time, LA Metro stated in a news release.

Other carriers, such as T-Mobile and Sprint, are providing cellphone coverage on the Red Line from Union Station to Vermont/Sunset. Sprint will extend its cellular services between North Hollywood and Hollywood/Western this summer. T-Mobile has not yet signed up to provide coverage through the Red Line’s Hollywood segment, according to LA Metro.

Cellphone service is available to customers on all four major carriers throughout the entirety of the Metro Purple Line, from Union Station to Wilshire/Western.

Although cell service is now available along most of the subway routes, LA Metro advises that riders first contact the train operator via the emergency intercom before calling 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency.

Alternatively, cellular data can be used to access the messaging feature on the Transit Watch app.
