LA Trade-Tech College Holds Job Fair for Transgender Community

Los Angeles Trade-Tech College will be holding a job fair for transgender people on Wednesday, March 13.

Rizi Timane, director of the Transgender Health Program at St. Johns Family Center and organizer of the event, has invited more than 80 companies on the campus of LA Trade Tech College.

"Timane said." We created this to serve an incredibly diverse and talented group of people who find themselves in unfair situations simply because of who they are, "said Timane.

According to the organization, the unemployment rate for transgender people is three times higher than the national average.

Some companies that have confirmed their presence are: Paramount Pictures, Sony, UCLA Health, Starbucks, AEG Live and The Trevor Project.

Timane added that the reason why they do not find employment is not because people lack the skills but because sometimes employers often have a great lack of understanding about this community.

The organizer of this fair said that the companies that will be part of the event "have identified themselves as companies that want to diversify their workplaces and create trans-inclusive environments."

The job fair will be held between 1 and 4 p.m., at Los Angeles Trade-Tech College located at 400 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, 90015.
