Grandmother Dies, Children Hurt in La Mirada Hit-and-Run

A grandmother was killed and her two grandchildren suffered minor injuries Wednesday when they were struck by a hit-and-run driver near an elementary school in La Mirada.

The pedestrians were struck about 1:15 p.m. near Escalona Elementary School in the 14800 block of Escalona Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, the sheriff's department reported.

The children, a boy and a girl, were also taken to a hospital, authorities said. The boy has been released from the hospital, and his sister should be released later today.

Authorities did not immediately identify the adult victim.
