Labor Day Driving Arrests Down, 3 People Killed in LA: CHP

Officers arrested 685 people for suspected DUI violations between Friday night and Sunday morning of Labor Day weekend this year, less than 730 arrests during that period last year.

Drunken driving arrests were slightly down in Los Angeles County during the 2018 Labor Day weekend enforcement period, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.

CHP officers arrested 104 people for suspected DUI violations around the county between 6 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Sunday, an officer said. That's down from an arrest total of 115 people during this same 36-hour total in 2017.

Statewide, though, the CHP reported fewer arrests for drunken driving than last year. Officers arrested 685 people for suspected DUI violations between Friday night and Sunday morning of Labor Day weekend this year, less than 730 arrests during that period last year.

Those figures only account for arrests made by CHP officers, not other law enforcement agencies.

There were 14 traffic fatalities reported by law enforcement agencies across the state during the period, up from nine last year. Three of those fatalities took place in Los Angeles County up from two in 2017 during this period.
