Lakewood Police Investigate Link Between Shooting and Home Invasion Robbery

Two minutes after three men fled the scene of a home-invasion robbery in Lakewood, someone in their car fired on a man waiting in traffic

Investigators on Monday were trying to figure out how a Lakewood home invasion robbery might be connected to a shooting two blocks away that left a man in critical condition.

The same vehicle -- a black compact car -- appeared to have been involved in both events, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

The injured man, she said, happened to be sitting in his car waiting around the corner from the robbery location. The black car pulled up, and someone inside fired at the second car, which had been stopped in traffic.

The injured man was not involved in the home invasion robbery, the spokeswoman said.

Police are investigating the possible connection between the two incidents.

The shooting victim, who was in his 20s and had no gang affiliations, was transported to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center for surgery, City News Service reported.
