Detectives Release Sketch of Suspected Child Predator in Lancaster

Police search for a man they say tried to get an 11-year-old girl into his car as she was walking home from school

Detectives asked for the public’s help Sunday to identify a man who tried to lure an 11-year-old girl into his car last week in Lancaster.

The incident occurred Thursday as the victim was walking home from New Vista Elementary School, sheriff’s officials said.

The suspect approached the victim in a white compact car near the intersection of Avenue K and Challenger Way and tried to entice the child to get into the vehicle, according to a statement released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The child kept walking away and rejecting all of the suspect’s advances when a passing driver noticed, causing the suspect to make a U-turn and speed away, authorities said. The concerned passerby drove the girl home and contacted authorities.

The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, 30 to 50 years old, with a thin build and a mustache.

Anyone with information is urged to call Detective Melissa Sullivan at 661-940-3857.
