A Long Beach-based company is recalling 1,589 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken meatballs containing an allergen that wasn't listed on the ingredients label, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Tuesday.
According to the FSIS, the “Lemonade Chicken Thai-Style Meatballs” contain soy, which is not listed on the product label.
Federal officials said the affected product was produced and packaged April 24 for Lemonade restaurants and shipped to a California distribution center.
The Long Beach company, Santa Fe Importers Inc., notified the FSIS after learning the bread crumbs used in the product contained soy lecithin, officials said.
"It was just a single order for a single customer," said Vincent Passanisi, company president at Santa Fe Importers. "They never even went to Lemonade, they just went to the distributor."
"No one was ever in danger of eating it," he said.
