Teen Wounded in Officer-Involved Shooting

Long Beach police shot and wounded a 17-year-old boy early Saturday morning in Long Beach.

The officer-involved shooting occurred around 5 a.m. in the 6800 block of Beechley Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

An officer responding to a call regarding gunshots heard arrived at the location and saw several people outside a home, police said. As the officer approached the group, a male teenager pulled out a firearm and the officer-involved shooting occurred, police said.

A firearm was recovered at the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates the 17-year-old, who will be a minor for a few more days and will not be identified, was involved in a confrontation with several people at a home, according to witnesses.

The teen fired several rounds from a handgun during the argument, prompting a neighbor to call police, officials said.

After being hospitalized and treated for a minor wound, the 17-year-old was booked for assault with a deadly weapon against one of the residents and exhibiting a firearm in the presence of a police officer.
