Long Beach Transit Starts Year-Round Water Taxi Service

Long Beach Transit Friday began year-round water taxi service.

"We are so pleased to launch year-round water taxi services this weekend," said LBT President and CEO Kenneth A. McDonald. "Our popular AquaLink and AquaBus boats will be available weekends through Memorial Day when we change to daily service and we will continue cruising through the fall and winter."

LBT's water taxis will operate on a Friday through Sunday schedule through Grand Prix Weekend in mid-April, when there will be special service, and continue through Memorial Day. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, water taxis operate daily service. After Labor Day, AquaLink and AquaBus will once again operate Friday through Sunday.

"Our customers asked for more service and we listened," McDonald said. "LBT continues to connect communities with our buses and boats."

AquaLink carries up to 75 customers and provides direct service from Alamitos Bay Landing, 100 N. Marina Drive, to the Aquarium of the Pacific dock.

A one-way trip along the coastline takes about 25 minutes.

AquaBus carries 35 customers and serves the Queen Mary, Hotel Maya, Aquarium of the Pacific dock and Shoreline Village.

The cost is $1 each way for AquaBus and $5 each way for AquaLink. Customers can pay cash or use LBT's new mobile app to buy tickets.

Long Beach Transit serves 26 million annual boarding customers in Long Beach, Lakewood and Signal Hill, as well as portions of Artesia, Bellflower, Carson, Cerritos, Compton, Hawaiian Gardens, Los Alamitos, Norwalk, Paramount and Seal Beach.
