A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy was arrested Thursday and charged with six counts related to beatings he allegedly inflicted on inmates in 2009 and 2010.
Jermaine W. Jackson, 35, of Corona, was charged in two alleged assaults, according to the district attorney's office.
The first alleged beating took place at the Compton Courthouse lockup on Dec. 31, 2009; the second was on Christmas Day 2010 at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown LA.
Jackson, who has been a jailer assigned to the Twin Towers for the past five years, was being held on $100,000 bail, the sheriff's department said in a press release.
His arrest, which took place at 4:30 p.m. Thursday without incident, came after several months of investigation from the sheriff's department's Internal Criminal Investigation Bureau.
The investigation, which is continuing, found that Jackson had "assaulted two inmates on two separate occasions using a deadly weapon – namely his feet," the sheriff's department said in a press release.
Jackson was relieved of duty without pay, the department said.
He is charged with two felony counts of assault likely to produce great bodily injury, two felony counts of assault under color of authority, and two misdemeanor counts of false report by a police officer.
Jackson's arraignment could occur as early as Friday.
