Los Angeles Sheriff's Station Hosts Taco Fundraiser for Slain Dallas Officers

The South Los Angeles sheriff's station is hosting a private fundraiser Tuesday to support the five Dallas police officers killed last week during a protest.

The taco fundraiser will both celebrate the life of Officer Lorne Ahrens, who worked for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department before he joined the Dallas Police Department, and raise money for the families of the victims.

The fundraiser begins at 11 a.m. at 1310 W. Imperial Highway. The public is welcome to donate in the station lobby, but not allowed to attend the barbecue due to limited food and space.

All proceeds will go to the Dallas Police Department.

Dallas police officers Ahrens, Michael Krol, Michael J. Smith, Patrick Zamarripa, and Brent Thompson were killed by a sniper during a demonstration against the recent fatal police shootings of two black men.

Ahrens worked at both the Lennox and Lancaster sheriff's stations from April 1991 to August 2002. He left for the Dallas Police Department in January 2002.

The event alone raised $8,000 and anyone wishing to make additional online donations can do so here
