Hunt for Man Wielding Machete in Inland Empire Food 4 Less

New surveillance video released Wednesday shows a robber with a machete, and now investigators say the suspect could be the same one who attacked two women in recent months.

The video of the March 12 incident at the Victorville Food 4 Less in the 14700 block of La Paz Drive could potentially lead to the attacker, San Bernardino County Sheriff's investigators said.

In the video, a woman and two men are seen taking a cart full of items from the store.

As they approach the exit, a security guard tries to stop them. But a man pulls out a machete and slices the guard in the hand.

The three suspects got away.

"There's absolutely a possibility that it could be the same person and that is definitely something we are focusing on," Mara Rodriguez of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said.

Investigators said he is possibly the same person who was seen on surveillance video in late August running to a Victorville home where he used a machete to seriously injure a woman before driving off with her purse.

A couple of days later, a 16-year-old girl was also attacked outside her home a few miles away.

The sister of the girl who was attacked said the victim saw a black car parked in front of the house, and then the next thing she sees is a man running toward her with a large knife.

Investigators are asking people to look closely at all the surveillance images, especially the man with the machete.

Residents said they are hoping an arrest is made soon, as the attacks have taken away their sense of security.

"It's so concerning because if he has the guts to do it on camera imagine what he can do when there are no cameras," Maria Aboites said.
