Sometimes "Star Trek" mavens can feel as though they're stuck in the far corner of the Alpha Quadrant, with only the Holodeck to help them pass the time, when it comes to connecting with their favorite pop culture property.
Of course, a Federation fan can rewatch the various series, and say hello again to all of the films, but finding the opportunity to commune with real artifacts from the "Star Trek" universe, from costumes to props, can feel like a real Kobayashi Maru.
But here's a win-win situation headed our way: A major "Star Trek" exhibition, spotlighting over 100 pieces seen or employed in both the various television series and the movies, is pulling into a docking station in Los Angeles in April 2020.
The locally based spaceport that "Star Trek: Exploring New Worlds" will land at? It's the Skirball Cultural Center, which will host the decades-spanning exhibition from April 30 to Sept. 6, 2020.
The "fully immersive exhibit," which will be organized by the Museum of Pop Culture, Seattle, under license by CBS Consumer Products, will delve into "... how 'Star Trek' broke boundaries with its daring vision of cooperation and inclusion, where humans of all backgrounds work alongside beings from outer space to explore the stars."
Some sneak-peek'd highlights? Look for a navigation console, one you might recognize from the original series, as well as the U.S.S. Enterprise filming model from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (yep, it's big, measuring six feet).
