Woman at Bus Stop Among 3 Injured When Pursuit Driver Crashes Pickup

The pickup truck was reportedly stolen and crashed into another vehicle in Compton.

A man was arrested Monday after leading deputies on a brief chase in a possibly stolen pickup truck that crashed into another vehicle in Compton, injury the suspect, another driver and a woman sitting at a bus stop. 

The crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. near Long Beach and Compton boulevards, said Deputy Trina Schrader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Information Bureau.

Deputies had tried to stop the vehicle after discovering that it had been reported stolen, but the driver sped off. The patrol vehicle was not involved in the crash, Schrader said.

The suspect and the man driving the other vehicle were taken to a hospital. The man who was hit by the pickup truck has been identified by his family as 55-year-old Jose Mejia from East Los Angeles. Mejia is currently recovering from a back injury and numerous lacerations but is expected to recover. The pursuit driver was believed to be in his mid 30s. Details about their injuries were not immediately available.

A woman sitting at a nearby bus stop was transported in an ambulance after being left with minor injuries caused by debris from the crash, according to Batallion Chief, Luis Hernandez.

The suspect's name and condition was not immediately released.
