Man Arrested for Death of 89-Year-Old Woman in Her Hollywood Apartment

An 89-year-old woman was found dead Wednesday at a Hollywood apartment building.

Authorities responded to the four-story building in the 7000 block of Hawthorn Avenue, near La Brea Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, about 12:35 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The death was about a block away from the Roosevelt Hotel.

A detective told reporters at the scene that the victim suffered blunt force trauma. Jerrod Vaile-Martindale, 29, was taken into custody in connection to the woman's death.

The suspect was visiting the woman when the two got into an argument and the suspect allegedly struck the victim with a blunt object, according to Officer Tony Im of the LAPD's Media Relations section.

Neighbors told NBC4 that two men were regularly seen with the woman over the past month.

"He seemed, like, super sketchy," Stephanie Bascone said of the younger man.

No details were immediately available about how the man and woman were related, if at all, or what sparked the argument.
