Man Arrested in Connection With Mysterious Hollywood Murder

A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a woman who was walking with her boyfriend in Hollywood earlier this month, police confirmed Friday night.

Thirty-year-old Carrie Jean Melvin was walking near Sunset Boulevard from her apartment to a restaurant with her boyfriend when was a man with a shotgun walked up behind the couple and shot her in the head around 10 p.m. July 5.

Ezeoma Obioha, 31, was arrested and charged with Melvin’s murder Friday night, according to LAPD.

Investigators believe Obioha was lying in wait for Melvin, and that she was killed because of a dispute the two had over money, according to Det. John Radke of LAPD’s West Bureau homicide division.

It's not yet clear how the two knew each other.

Search warrants were served at Obioha’s home and business Friday morning.

The case is expected to be presented to the LA District Attorney’s office Tuesday.
